The packaging notebook
CMYK vs Pantone Printing
The right color brief starts with the result you need on the chosen paper.
Process and spot color
CMYK builds color using four process inks. A spot color uses a specified ink color. Artwork, paper and printing method affect the choice.
A screen is a reference
Screens emit light; paper reflects it. Uncoated and coated stocks can show the same ink differently. Supply brand color references and discuss a physical proof.
Confirm before production
Identify critical brand colors and finishes. Ask how the proof relates to the final press process and agree the approval method.
