How to Measure a Box
A clear set of dimensions prevents a surprising amount of rework.
Measure the inside
Use internal length × width × height. Open the box and measure the usable space, without including board thickness. State whether measurements are internal or external.
Start with your product
Measure the product at its widest points, including lids or fittings. Tell the packaging team about inserts, protective wrap and the way the product should sit.
Keep units consistent
Use millimeters, centimeters or inches throughout the brief. Test the fit with a structural sample before approving a production run.
